Six feet under the radar:
Celebrating NEEDLES JONES

Thursday, January 8, 2026
Parkside lounge NYC

Philadelphia’s self-described “drag pariah,” Needles Jones was the drag alter ego of Ira Abramowitz. Ira’s association with New York City spanned decades. In the early 80’s, he lived in the East Village and managed Club 57. As legend has it, he was wanted by the cops and left the city in a rush, grabbing his matted wigs and crumpled dresses and leaving behind paintings given to him by friends Jean Michel-Basquiat and Keith Haring.

Later in life Needles Jones became a fixture at Earl Dax’s PUSSY FAGGOT! parties on NYC’s Lower East Side. Needles also joined one of the PF European tours and was part of an unforgettable PF road trip to New Orleans that began with a kick-off party at The Parkside Lounge. Fittingly, we return to Parkside on January 4 with an raucous memorial event befitting an artist who, to borrow the title of one of his songs, was always “speeding through the red lights of life.”

Presented in association with Vintage Annals Archive.
